Model: Technology tools relevant to the STEM program are being used by almost all STEM teachers and students, more than 75% of students and teachers are proficient in common technology tools
3.1 - Instructional Technology for STEM
We have a very technology rich environment at Patriots. The use of technology tools is a part of the daily routine at Patriots for both students and teachers. Our third, fourth, and fifth grade classrooms are 1:1 with chromebooks and second grade is 1:1 with MacBook Airs. These teachers use learning management systems such as Canvas, Schoology, and Google Classroom to create online learning environments for students. Students use these tools every day during instruction to collaborate, create, and communicate.
Our kindergarten classes have access to 60 laptops and 60 iPads and first grade has 35 laptops and 60 iPads. Our students are well versed in technology and use these tools every day. Along with the technology embedded in each classroom, we also have many devices ready to check out. We have 2 iPod carts, 1 iPad cart, and 30 GPS units available for student use.
All students at Patriots STEM Elementary use Dreambox, an intelligent, adaptive learning system. This math program adapts to student skills and constantly assesses and challenges students as they move through the math curriculum at their own pace. Students also use iReady, an interactive reading program aligned with the common core state standards. The other program used by all teachers at Patriots is iCurio. This is an online collection of resources that are teacher tested and connected to our curriculum documents at the county level. As you can see in the evidence link, Patriots has a higher usage of this program than any other elementary school in our district. Our teachers and students are leading the way with technology use each day here at Patriots STEM Elementary.
The image to the right is our Dreambox usage for the first semester of 2015-2016 school year. As you can see on average all students at Patriots are using this program at least 37 minutes each week. This adaptive learning system is used during math workshop for all students.
